Sun Yat-sen(1866-1925), born in Xiangshan ( now Zhongshan), Guangzhou province, is the great forerunner of the Chinese democratic revolution and the founder of the Republic of China. He was supported, loved and admired by millions of people and is forever a banner of Chinese nation.
He devoted all his life to advocating democracy. Regardless of threat and pressure from Western imperialism and warlord internal, he launched the northern expedition and fight against rebel forces. Besides, with ever-lasting fighting spirit he reorganized Kuo Min Tang twice. The Chinese revolution, therefore, was transformed from old democratic form to new democratic form.
In memory of Sun Yat-sen, the then national Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issued commemorative stamp of 90th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen′s birth in 1956 and 100th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen′s birth in 1966 and in 1986 issued small types of commemorative stamps of 120th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen′s birth.
