As known to all, India is the country of origin for Buddhism. Budhigaya, more than 200 kilometers away from Varanasi, is well known for being the original birthplace of Buddhism. Indian Buddhism originated in ancient India (as called Tianzhu in Chinese). Tradition has it that in the 6th century BC, the eldest son of King Suddhodana of Kapilavastu in North India, namely Siddhartha Gautama, founded the Indian Buddhism. During his age of 35-year-old, he lingered under a linden tree for 37 days. Finally A light broke in upon him with comprehension of the true doctrines of Buddhism. Later, that place came to be known as Budhigaya, while his wandering footprints under the linden tree became blossoming lotus flowers. Subsequently, he has been respectfully called as Sakyamuni by his disciples.
